This title was a tough one to illustrate, so here's a caged parakeet. Pretend he/she/it is demented! |
Take 69 - The One With the Demented Parakeet
Description: A restless Matthew Clairmont makes the rounds and pays a few castle calls to the current residents of Sept-Tours. He's on edge, and his friends and family -- rightly -- welcome him back with wary caution. In the end, it takes Diana to bring him to his center (as he does for her). BUT, there's one family member who wonders out loud (to say the least) why Diana Bishop is harboring the blood song of his long-dead father, Philippe de Clermont. Like Matthew, the Daemons are also restless souls in this pandemic, so they take the opportunity to talk A LOT, thus the lengthy episode! Take it in shifts, or binge it at once! No judgement! Enjoy!SPOILER ALERT! We (The Daemons) approach this podcast with an assumption that the listener has read All Souls universe books, including the trilogy (A Discovery of Witches, Shadow of Night, The Book of Life), and Time's Convert + snippits from The World of All Souls. If you haven't, and you don't mind, we certainly don't mind! Please be advised, we will approach the television series (A Discovery of Witches) the same way as episodes are released in the US/Canada. 😊 Let's do this. *Note - this podcast is labeled 'explicit'

Chapter 2, The Book of Life
- The omniscient narrative describes Matthew as a bit of a loner/black sheep within the family.
- As a step-father, Philippe is no Mike Brady!
- Gallowglass and Corra!
- “Fucking Firedrake!” YAS!!!
- Raiders of the Lost F*cks!
- Sir Vagabond (sound the royal horns!)
- Reasoning with Corra is as useless as reasoning with Diana
- We discuss Corra as a representation of Diana’s energy.
- Hamish!
- The thought of people having to choose between Matthew and Baldwin; it’s demonstrated by Matthew’s petty refusal of Baldwin’s claret.
- Hamish points out to Matthew that even though everyone is quaking with fear around him, it was Matthew is the one whose the most scared.
- They discuss Marcus’ and Phoebe’s relationship
- Hamish gives him a deserved earful!
- Hamish remains optimistic about Matthew’s goodness.
- Marcus and Phoebe
- Marcus is using Philippe’s old office 😳
- Phoebe is a bold young lady!
- We learn some vampire rules via some minor missteps by Phoebe (Marcus didn’t “school” her properly)
- Diana gets a new doctor!👨⚕️
- We question why Phoebe is fascinating? We are told she is, but we’d love to see examples.
- Fernando!
- Matthew gets examined by Fernando . . . just in case that pesky blood rage is out of control!
- The blood rage has gotten worse, not better! Yikes!
- Fernando scolds and relays that Ysabeau should’ve locked Matthew in a tower to avoid the mating of Matthew and Diana; this sounded familiar reading about Matthew’s objections to Marcus and Phoebe
- The bloodsong! This is new!
- Louisa would have heard it! She must’ve been bat-shit crazy to ignore Philippe’s blood song.
- Enter Gallowglass again!
- The smoking, and Gallowglass’ humorous musings about medical school and university
- Back to Matthew’s rooms. Ysabeau performs a crazy-check on Matthew like Fernando did.
- Matthew listens to Diana’s breathing, and the micro animal kingdom outside of the chateau.
- Time standing still = DOING IT! 😉
- We crashed into a serious ditch right here. 💥🚙
- We discuss the appearance of a new marking on Diana’s back — when did it appear? Was it representative of the Riply’s scroll, or Diana’s dream when she lost her first child— we're fresh out of theories!
- BALDWIN!
- FIN

* Our episode titles are a loving tribute to the show "Friends" just 'cause we love Friends and - let's face it - it's easier! Here's how one of the show creators explains their reasoning:
Jeff Greenstein: "When Marta & David & Jeff & I did 'Dream On', we used to spend a lot of time thinking about titles, because they were on-screen at the top of each episode. On "Friends", we decided that was a waste of time. We figured, why not name each episode after the thing that people will ostensibly be talking about around the water-cooler the next day?"
