Daemons Discuss - Podcast: A Discovery of Witches Season 2 - Our Closing Thoughts. 🎬

We'll be back in 6 weeks ... with chapters!

"That's a Wrap!"

Description: That's it for the season this year on the streaming services, and that's it for us until (on/about) the middle of May! We share our fond memories of covering the 10 episodes of this season, along with what we loved, and parts that, in our opinions, maybe fell a little short. Overall, this season -- for us -- did just what it was supposed to as far as bringing our favorite book of the series to the television screen! All gripes should be taken with a grain of salt, and a healthy dose of laughter! Life is short. Laugh!

We'll talk to you again in May, with Take 81 - ch 12 of The Book of Life!

The Matthew/Philippe relationship was well executed this season.
SPOILER ALERT! We (The Daemons) approach this podcast with an assumption that the listener has read All Souls universe books, including the trilogy (A Discovery of Witches, Shadow of Night, The Book of Life), and  Time's Convert + snippits from The World of All Souls. If you haven't, and you don't mind, we certainly don't mind!  Please be advised, we will approach the television series (A Discovery of Witches) the same way as episodes are released in the US/Canada. 😊  Let's do this. *Note - this podcast is labeled 'explicit'

  • Sheila Hancock as Goody was delightful.

Topic:
Our thoughts about Season2 (good, bad, indifferent)
  • Angela loved the FX, the sets, and the pacing.
  • Jean loved Kit’s characterization, the modern episodes, and the scenes with the Queen. She also enjoyed that we saw Matthew’s spy craft in full view.
  • We are kind of upset that daemons aren’t really listened to. We can all see how they are deemed as second class citizens. But, we can tell this is purposeful.
  • The Peter and Gerbert plotting - we loved that. We hate that the congregation is actually a farce, but we love that this production shows it.
  • Val loved that we got to see the “Venice Vampires”
  • Louisa was great for us! The acting, her costumes, and putting a face to Matthew's scary sister!
  • Episode 5 and 6 - perfection!
  • Matthew Goode and Teresa Palmer really upped their games this season.
  • The entire cast did exceptionally well.
  • We enjoyed the expanded point of view outside of Diana’s head.
  • We got to see Diana’s hot messiness as well as Matthew's!
  • It was no mistake that Ysabeau was holding the KOL seal at the end.
  • We appreciated Ysabeau’s empathy towards Baldwin this season.
  • We loved the portrayal of Philippe by James Purefoy. Perfection.
  • The heart vein scene confused us in its placement.
  • The miniatures - mainly just the appearance of them. But maybe being book readers, that’s part of our conditioning.
  • Angela loves Stephen. She didn’t like how he was depicted in this season.
  • Jean is confused as to why Cecil was portrayed as such a sinister character; in the books he seemed intimidating, in the show he was downright scary.
  • Valerie is quite confused about Walter and Henry’s purpose? Also the witches in the Coven?
  • The term “Dark Magic” is troublesome, but we understand in stories why it’s depicted as “dark”.
  • Jean LOVED that we got to see Philippe presenting a wedding gift to Matthew, along with a great back-story. And she doesn’t care, she’s constructed her theory about Philippe’s relationship with the Goddess, and she's sticking to it, until someone shatters her dreams!
  • WHAT HAPPENED TO GILLIAN? Angela has called off the search party. Jean and Valerie are still on the hunt.

Seriously ... a little closure would be nice!

* Our episode titles are a loving tribute to the show "Friends" just 'cause we love Friends and - let's face it - it's easier! Here's how one of the show creators explains their reasoning:
Jeff Greenstein: "When Marta & David & Jeff & I did 'Dream On', we used to spend a lot of time thinking about titles, because they were on-screen at the top of each episode. On "Friends", we decided that was a waste of time. We figured, why not name each episode after the thing that people will ostensibly be talking about around the water-cooler the next day?"

It's a Vampire Birthday Party - Daemon-Style (aka...a Giveaway!) πŸ§›πŸ»‍♂️

Happy Birthday, Matthew Goode! No, the gifts are not for you. Have a great day, though!

We've heard whispers among the creature community --πŸ₯³ Matthew Goode will have a birthday on the 3rd of April!πŸŽ‚ Well, it's only right that we throw a party (in the form of a giveaway, OF COURSE.)

Being that he is our Matthew Clairmont, we thought we should keep the prizes Matthew-centric - both Matthews!

  • A glass cabochon necklace feat. Hilliard's miniature of Young Man Against Flames - as featured on the US Viking/Penguin spines of Shadow of Night
  • A Bath and Body Works body wash + foam bath in the scent "Fire" -- Matthew Goode is a fire sign, soooooo...that's what we are sending! The scent: "Spark passion and energy with this fire-inspired blend of patchouli, sandalwood and bergamot." We may have snagged the last one, because the website shows it's sold OUT!
  • An assorted lot of Daemon swag, because that's just what we do.

Here is a picture of our Angela modeling the version of the necklace that the winner will receive:

Daemons Discuss - Podcast: Interview | A Chat with Jane Tranter

Jane Tranter rides shotgun, and navigates us through the world of television production.

Bonus - A Discovery of Witches - A Chat with Jane Tranter

Description: Jane Tranter, co-founder of Bad Wolf Productions, and the British super-producer behind the likes of His Dark Materials, The Night Of, Succession, and (listed last, but certainly NOT regarded least) A Discovery of Witches, agreed to a sit-down with us; we discussed all sorts of things regarding the production of ADOW Season 2. From the challenges related to COVID-19, to her overall vision for the series, we covered a lot of ground. Yes ... we even asked her to drop hints about Season 3. SHE DID! Recorded 10 March 2021

Daemons Discuss - Podcast: TV Review! | A Discovery of Witches Season 2, Episode 10

As we journey to this ending, we must remember that there are still new beginnings!

Season 2, Episode 10 of A Discovery of Witches

Description: Jean calls this episode a prologue to Season 3, and it is, but it does manage to tie up Season 2 sufficiently enough for us. We say goodbye to Goody, the coven, Susanna, Father Hubbard, Pierre, Françoise, Jack (😒), and Gallowglass in 1591. AND there is the "Hello/Goodbye" to Diana's Dad, Stephen Proctor!

Meanwhile, we are getting a glimpse of what the couple will be greeted with when they return to their modern lives - Ysabeau, Marcus, Miriam, Sarah, Emily, Nathaniel, Sophie, Agatha, and Phoebe examine the problems they are facing, and ponder possible solutions going forward. Gerbert and Domenico are fighting for their own power in destructive ways. Peter (we have a few choice words to say about him) is planning a solo raid on Sept-Tours. Satu -- well, she offered her help. It's not her fault that Peter is too stubborn to accept it! Come to the good side, Satu! And then there is Herr Fuchs ... aka Benjamin (😱)

This episode runs long because we had a lot to discuss in the Spoiler Zone. Those of you who enter it, you'll understand why!

Thanks to all of our NEW Patrons for sponsoring this episode, and to all, please enjoy.

P.S. Our phone number, because Valerie never remembers it: 1 (360) 519-7836! πŸ˜›

Walter Raleigh shows himself to be useless πŸ˜•! Pierre and the French music πŸŽΌπŸ‡«πŸ‡·! Jack is nimble πŸƒ‍♂️! A house raid 🏠! Meeting a weaver's familiar πŸ‰! William Cecil (Lord Burghley) is an an a$$hole 🀬! Kit tests Matthew's patience 😀! A baby πŸ‘Ά?!! Is Goody is on death's door ☠️?! Matthew puts his foot down πŸ₯Ύ! Ashmole 782 πŸ“–! Needless to say, many events occurred in this episode, and putting a neat synopsis together was a little hard this time around. No worries, we break it down further in The Spoiler Zone (for those who don't care about book spoilers), as this TV episode diverges from the book quite a bit!

Thanks to Aimee Sund for sponsoring this episode, and to all, please enjoy.

When the Goon Squad comes a callin'
We had some things to say about this scene . . . not bad, just -- well ...
This picture makes us want to put a talk bubble over Matthew: "Newman." 😏
Louisa . . . proceed with caution here.
I'm the G.O.A.T!
Dang, Kit. Just when you thought your life couldn't get messier.
Did you forget about Matthew's temper, Louisa?

* Our episode titles are a loving tribute to the show "Friends" just 'cause we love Friends and - let's face it - it's easier! Here's how one of the show creators explains their reasoning:

Jeff Greenstein: "When Marta & David & Jeff & I did 'Dream On', we used to spend a lot of time thinking about titles, because they were on-screen at the top of each episode. On "Friends", we decided that was a waste of time. We figured, why not name each episode after the thing that people will ostensibly be talking about around the water-cooler the next day?"
