Take 55 - The One With the Bright Hues
Description: After some gentle persuasion (ha!), Edward Kelley points Diana and Matthew to Rabbi Loew in order to find the lost book (presently known as Ashmole 782). The Rabbi can offer no assistance, however he
can escort Diana to the Jewish town to meet Abraham, maker of spells, and mother of the Golem ๐. Diana exchanges methods with Abraham, gains some insight, allows her familiar to have a play date, and a inadvertently has a chance encounter with a future er..."problem"? Matthew, getting drowned by the chaos that their lives have become, has had enough! Newlywed drama! We talked the heck out of this one! Enjoy!
SPOILER ALERT! We (The Daemons) approach this podcast with an assumption that the listener has read All Souls universe books, including the trilogy (A Discovery of Witches, Shadow of Night, The Book of Life), and Time's Convert + snippits from The World of All Souls. If you haven't, and you don't mind, we certainly don't mind! Please be advised, we will approach the television series (A Discovery of Witches) the same way as episodes are released in the US/Canada. ๐
Let's do this. *Note - this podcast is labeled 'explicit'

Topic:
Chapter 29, Shadow of Night
- Our thoughts and impressions of Old/Jewish Town.
- We read the chapter opening, and we discuss careful negotiations to get Matthew and Diana to Jewish town. We wonder (why the negotiations?). Is this Philippe business or congregation business?
- Diana and Matthew pay off the doctor with chickens! ๐
- Rudolf’s not “I promise you will not starve. I’LL keep you satisfied.” Boo! Rudolf! ๐คฌ
- Matthew gets side-eyed a lot in Jewish Town! Matthew, what have you done?!
- We discuss Philippe’s names.
- Matthew was rather reverent of the Rabbi. Angela says that it was nice not to meet another clown! ๐คก
- We find out Matthew’s been snooping around about the Golem. Matthew assures the Rabbi that this was not about that.
- We appreciate that the Rabbi is not above common snark! ๐
- The cauldron of ink… a little history lesson ๐ง
- We get the idea that Rabbi knows that Diana is a time walker. He’s been given a heads up, after all.
- God made Matthew ~ Rabbi Loew; Matthew has a soul ~ Goody Alsop
- Diana is back to being a student!
- Jean brings up the fact that Diana is part of Ariel’s family — not just married into it.
- We talk about the (mis)deeds that may have caused strife between the Jews and Philippe. At least he tries to do better ๐ณ.
- Rabbi tells what he knows of the lost book.
- Diana wants to know if the words were moving. The book is alive! Matthew: WHAT? Lol
- Matthew may not be the lesser of two evils between him in Rudolf with the residents of Jewish Town.
- Matthew gets scolded for dangling Edward out the window. Whoops!
- Matthew is informed that Diana’s got to get information without him. Matthew must really really respect this Rabbi to let her go and meet the weaver.
- We discuss the related predators with the vampires we know.
- Herr Maisel - he helps with “small” financial matters, then we go into a ditch of the collective historical knowledge of Jean and Angela
- We discuss the marking of the Jews, and bad humanity throughout history. We drag ourselves out of the sad ditch.
- The speech about tolerance. It’s very important. Toleration is not always enough.
- We walk in on Abraham and David having a heated discussion.
- DING DING DING! — the bright hues
- We get a little Hebrew lesson: leech = vampire
- Abraham lets us know that there were more weavers prior to the covenant. Hmmm….
- THE FIREDRAKE! She wants to play! ๐
- Diana tries to rein her in, and the men evacuated.
- The Golem!
- The Firedrake has an admirer!
- Abraham and Diana do a compare/contrast of their power.
- We discuss the the similarities between Abraham and Diana’s magic.
- We compare the Golem to Frankenstein’s monster.
- The firedrake is finally asleep. ๐ค
- Herr F*cks, Fooks, Fuecks, Fuchs….
- What kind of business what Herr Fuchs doing?!
- Herr Maisel to the rescue!
- Abraham gives Diana advice on obtaining the book.
- “Don’t forget” — a lot of people tell Diana this throughout the series.
- Maisel escorts Diana back to Matthew. They head home to the three Ravens
- Lobero! Yet another gift!
- Household drama!
- And the note … from guess who?
- Matthew establishes his method of control over Diana. She’s not so easy to control, though.
- They need counseling! We volunteer!
- The double D!
- SAY IT!
- From the D to the O! ๐ฎ
- Matthew and his regret. We weren’t sure if the fifth question was appropriate at this moment.
- End chapter.

* Our episode titles are a loving tribute to the show "Friends" just 'cause we love Friends and - let's face it - it's easier! Here's how one of the show creators explains their reasoning:
Jeff Greenstein: "When
Marta & David & Jeff & I did 'Dream On', we used to spend a
lot of time thinking about titles, because they were on-screen at the
top of each episode. On "Friends", we decided that was a waste of time.
We figured, why not name each episode after the thing that people will
ostensibly be talking about around the water-cooler the next day?"
