Daemons Discuss - Podcast: Take 75! | Chapter Discussion about the All Souls Trilogy; Chapter 7 of The Book of Life

Meh, we went for the obvious today!

Take 75 - The One With the Spice Rack

Description: It's Sol in Leo! We're back in Madison, but things aren't quite correct. Matthew's moody, Sarah's broody, and it seems it's up to Diana to get this place back into working order. We meet the locals (witches) at the Cost Cutter, and Smitty at the Post Office! This a short chapter, but it starts us on the path to the larger things to come.

SPOILER ALERT! We (The Daemons) approach this podcast with an assumption that the listener has read All Souls universe books, including the trilogy (A Discovery of Witches, Shadow of Night, The Book of Life), and  Time's Convert + snippits from The World of All Souls. If you haven't, and you don't mind, we certainly don't mind!  Please be advised, we will approach the television series (A Discovery of Witches) the same way as episodes are released in the US/Canada. 😊  Let's do this. *Note - this podcast is labeled 'explicit'

Sol in Leo! Yay!

Crock-potting 70's style!

Topic:
Chapter 7, The Book of Life

  • It's Sol in Leo!
  • We all agree that we are happy about being out of “Crabby Cancer”
  • We start in Sarah’s still room, and Diana is fighting with the window! We see that this is Sarah’s sacred space. We think this is another side of Sarah, maybe even her truest self.
  • We compare the old pulpit to one of Jean’s colleagues, and Gerbert’s from a later chapter in this book.
  • A discussion of the 70’s decorating palette. Avocado, Persimmon, Brown and Harvest Gold! These colors have all survived in Sarah’s house.
  • Blenders, slow cookers, coffee grinders, and coffee makers are all the tools of the modern witch.
  • Diana thinks about the past and Mary’s mural, and all of a sudden, time starts spooling!⏰
  • Corra made it to NY
  • We loved the confrontation with Tabitha. 😾
  • Fernando reports on Matthew’s mental health. He also laments (and informs us) about Philippe. Diana “I’m getting the feeling you didn’t like the guy…” πŸ€”
  • We weigh the pros and cons of Philippe assigning Matthew as the family assassin.
  • We discuss why Diana is not using her magic to clean the still room; we conclude she’s still wary about performing magic in that space.
  • Sad, sad, Sarah. Boo! ☹️
  • The ghosts are gone, and it’s because Emily just died, and maybe they didn’t want to be hassled with questions, OK?!🀨
  • The blasted tree, and it’s strange fruit🌳
  • Diana is off to go shopping and Sarah is left to her sad sack self.
  • We discuss Sarah’s NEW BROOM - Val gets nitpicky. Anyway, the new broom is to replace Sarah’s old beat-down civic. 🚘
  • The witch ball is meant to replace the bumper stickers. LET SARAH KEEP HER BUMPER STICKERS!
  • Diana stops at the post office and sets the town abuzz.
  • Smitty is the Chatty Cathy of Madison…and we devolve into a discussion about Ace Hardware!
  • Oh…the post maul talk. DITCH!πŸ’₯πŸš™
  • Smitty; Diana exits stage left on this conversation. πŸ˜’
  • At the Cost Cutter in nearby Hamilton, we notice a minivan. Val gets a little heated talking about minivans.
  • Diana does a binding spell on the witch ball, and gets busted. Enter Vivian Harrison!
  • We discuss how nosy the coven seemed; but we just concluded it was a small town.
  • The old family names!
  • We speak to Abby, Caleb…both magical and part of the coven.
  • We discuss the Bodleian and the CostCutter as creature meeting places when some creature intrigue crops up.
  • Diana surprises us and herself “I think I need your help…” Wow! Progress!
  • The humans start noticing, so they set a date at Sarah’s in 20 minutes.
  • Back home, Diana tries some magic. It works!
  • “Welcome home, granddaughter” πŸ‘»
  • FIN

Sarah's got a brand-new broom!

Jeff Greenstein: "When Marta & David & Jeff & I did 'Dream On', we used to spend a lot of time thinking about titles, because they were on-screen at the top of each episode. On "Friends", we decided that was a waste of time. We figured, why not name each episode after the thing that people will ostensibly be talking about around the water-cooler the next day?"

Daemons Discuss - Podcast: Take 74! | Chapter Discussion about the All Souls Trilogy; Chapter 6 of The Book of Life

Oh right! THAT GUY.

Take 74 - The One With the Remote Guest

Description: It's time for a formal dinner! Fun, right? Let's answer this question as Lady Daemons: "Nah, Bruh." Eventually, we get to a calm period when people were able to break bread without killing each other, and that's nice -- until the ultimate party-crasher dialed it in. Yikes.

In typical fashion -- when this book is concerned -- this episode is packed! So prepare for a long ride in the wagon. We will stop for pee-breaks, but pack snacks!

SPOILER ALERT! We (The Daemons) approach this podcast with an assumption that the listener has read All Souls universe books, including the trilogy (A Discovery of Witches, Shadow of Night, The Book of Life), and  Time's Convert + snippits from The World of All Souls. Topic:
Chapter 6, The Book of Life
  • We are pretty much done with this session at Sept-Tours. The sniping, griping and all of it! #OVERIT!
  • We discuss the dinner plans for the farewell. This is Diana’s second rodeo at dinner plans; she's ready! πŸ˜‚
  • OH NOES! Matthew’s beard! RIP
  • Doesn’t everyone have a vampire seamstress?
  • The disguising spell turns out to be controversial! Really, Matthew?
  • The role of the consort - can Diana handle it? We think she can. And Matthew is making a lot of assumptions here.
  • The parental roles….oh dear, what a convo!
  • Gallowglass and his formal wear 🏍
  • We decide Sarah is uncomfortable at this dinner, and her lack of being able to read the room causes her to blurt out uncomfortable observations.
  • The arrow, and Ysabeau’s comments on it.
  • Baldwin, enters and the immediate clashes between him and Diana.
  • The dinnerware…🍽
  • Phoebe approves of the table seating.
  • Dinner commences, and eventually everyone was able to settle in without killing each other.
  • Marcus and Phoebe’s announcement; “The old fashioned way”
  • Phoebe is gonna be a vampire! Whoa! Matthew forbids it! Marcus: “It’s not up to you, dude. It’s up to Baldwin” OUCH.
  • All of the intimate mating secrets are getting spilled.
  • The phone rings …
  • BENJAMIN!
  • Benjamin is dropping hints as to what he’s up to.
  • Matthew calls Miriam, and she’s clueless that Benjamin has her phone.πŸ“±
  • Tudo ben contigo? = you good?
  • Baldwin has some things to say about Matthew’s handling of Benjamin in the past.
  • Baldwin takes control of this situation with a few proclamations and leaves the room.
  • Diana decides that they are going to the Bishop house. Matthew, Diana, Sarah and Fernando will be headed to NY. Diana theorizes that Rebecca had the answers, and that’s where they’ll find them.
  • Finding the missing pages of the Book of Life becomes the priority.
  • Phoebe hAz some useful sKiLlZ
  • Benjamin shares an appreciation for witches with Matthew…we thought this meaning was obvious, but it seems to be confusing the book's characters?
  • FIN
Gokuraku-ji Temple, Hachioji -- where Baldwin's DAUGHTER is from!
