Take 52 - The One With the Closet Raid
Description: Just when Diana was making Elizabethan London her home, someone is telling her it's best that she leaves! We meet Matthew's boss, William Cecil (nicknamed The Old Fox), and he brings with him advice for Diana; go back to Woodstock, and wait out the incoming storm. That storm has a name: Queen Elizabeth I. Instead, Matthew and Diana choose to stay and weather it with help from members of the School of Night, and Mary -- who arms Diana for battle during an epic closet raid! This is a long episode, so you know what to do. Indulge in shifts, take that extra long walk, or be covered for both ends of your commute! You choose! Enjoy!SPOILER ALERT! We (The Daemons) approach this podcast with an assumption that the listener has read All Souls universe books, including the trilogy (A Discovery of Witches, Shadow of Night, The Book of Life), and Time's Convert + snippits from The World of All Souls. If you haven't, and you don't mind, we certainly don't mind! Please be advised, we will approach the television series (A Discovery of Witches) the same way as episodes are released in the US/Canada. ๐ Let's do this. *Note - this podcast is labeled 'explicit'

Chapter 25, Shadow of Night
- Diana gets home and she’s hangry!
- Holy crap! Who is this old man? William Cecil — The Old Fox — a human and the Lord High Treasurer? Sir William? Nope. Lord Burghley.
- Latin isn’t Valerie’s superpower ๐. Anyway…Diana tries to spout the Shirley motto to chill this old man out!
- The Patriarchy rears its head. Bishops and women becoming them!
- The Queen is bored. Get out of town! Lord Burghley is doing Diana a favor here.
- Diana is not going to be run out of town. We agree! She's getting all settled!
- Yeah, lady. Tell your husband I called, alright? *exit tottering old man*
- Franรงoise: "SH*T!" “Dieu.” Franรงoise crossed herself, then forked her fingers against the evil eye for good measure. “He is an old soul. I do not like the way he looked at you. It is a good thing milord is not yet home. He would not have liked it either.”
- Diana has tells too!
- Huzzah! Juggling, Shakespeare, and out of Diana and Matthew’s hair! Bye kids!
- The wooden spell box…we get distracted by the description!
- The next day, it’s time to see the Queen! They are called to court.
- The Queen is reminding them that there are laws against witchcraft, conjurations, and enchantments. Hmm, do you think she knows that Diana's a witch?! ๐ง๐ป♀️
- Appear in court or go to jail. Welp. That decides that. ๐
- Mary to the rescue! She’s brought clothing, jewelry and battle armor!♘
- A FRENCH DRESS?! NOOOOOOOO!!!
- The anatomy of an Elizabethan dress.
- 4 women to dress a lady in two hours — to go to QE1’s court, or the Oscar’s! ๐
- Harry Winston, or Mary’s jewelry box? We tend to think Mary’s coffer is more grand.๐
- Matthew was making a statement with his portrait miniature.
- Time to meet the Queen! Hurry up! And sit. And wait. In the flowery funk.
- We are finally admitted to see the Queen! Oy.
- Let the passive-aggressive jockeying begin . . .
- I see, and I am silent.
- We meet that punk, Essex. ๐คจ
- The Noblety™ are an odd lot. ⚔️
- Time for Diana to talk to the Queen!
- Gerbert! ๐
- Bess!
- Court is like high school. Seriously. ๐ณ
- The real reason Elizabeth wants Edward Kelly back in town. ๐ฎ
- PSA: No, Fernando does not have a book yet (nor has there been an announcement of one). Jean’s just way ahead of the rest of us! ๐
- Matthew strikes a bargain with the Queen. She agrees, as long as Diana stays behind to attend to her.
- Mary to the rescue!
- The Queen laments that Matthew no longer has time to plump up her ego. Be gone! Off with you! Out! ๐ธ๐ป๐ญ
- Matthew on the subject of Prague: NOPE! Goody on the subject of Prague: ALL OF THE NOPES! Diana and Matthew have no choice, though.
- The Empire Prague or bust!

* Our episode titles are a loving tribute to the show "Friends" just 'cause we love Friends and - let's face it - it's easier! Here's how one of the show creators explains their reasoning:
Jeff Greenstein: "When Marta & David & Jeff & I did 'Dream On', we used to spend a lot of time thinking about titles, because they were on-screen at the top of each episode. On "Friends", we decided that was a waste of time. We figured, why not name each episode after the thing that people will ostensibly be talking about around the water-cooler the next day?"
