Christopher Roberts, award winning scientist, a super-protective BFF, and on paper, a great friend to have; he remains a thorn in our sides. |
Take 83 - The One With This Bish, Chris.
Description: This title, in our opinion, requires explanation. The word "Bish" (substitute for "Bitch". We substituted the term to avoid distributor problems;
Apple Podcasts, Google, Spotify, etc. frown upon titling episodes with
*ahem* foul language), is a description for OUR process. WE find Chris
to be a conundrum. On the one hand, he's a scientist aiming to do good
in the world, yet his behavior remains problematic. He's got legitimate
points when it comes to racial inequities, and it's been a wild roller
coaster ride trying to grapple with our understanding of the author's
intent, and the in-your-face-ness of the retcon when it comes to his
characterization. In other news, the coven failed the test, Vivian makes
an appearance, Sarah stands her ground, and Chris, Matthew, and Diana
officially team up. In the end, we embark on a journey away from the
Bishop House, and we don't look back! Sol in Virgo, here we come!SPOILER ALERT! We (The Daemons) approach this podcast with an assumption that the listener has read All Souls universe books, including the trilogy (A Discovery of Witches, Shadow of Night, The Book of Life), and Time's Convert + snippits from The World of All Souls. If you haven't, and you don't mind, we certainly don't mind! Please be advised, we will approach the television series (A Discovery of Witches) the same way as episodes are released in the US/Canada. π Let's do this. *Note - this podcast is labeled 'explicit'

Segregation is NOT the answer. We absolutely agree with the troublesome scientist. |

Chapter 14, The Book of Life
-
The Coven had failed the test! π
- Abby and Caleb! We forgot their names! Anyway, sorry Caleb, the coven failed.
- Chris stage whispers … Vivian is like “who’s this guy?”
- Diana introduces Chris as the "colleague". π€¨ WHICH IS IT?! lol!
- We move to the family room and settle everyone in. It's serious, now!
- Cassie and Lydia — the cheerleaders blabbed!π£
- Victory spells? Smart. π€
- The Bishops are represented by Matthew, Attorney at Law. ⚖️
- Sidonie von Borcke. She’s apparently impressive and intimidating!
- Housing market ditch π₯π
- Diana “sO yOu CaN lIe…” Diana!!! You don’t leave a paper trail of your deception!
- Diana is trying to figure out what kind of witch Sidonie is, and Vivian is like “a powerful one”
- Chris lays down truth, but is a bad secret keeper!
- Bus segregation, school segregation, it’s all bad.
- We wonder if Chris has Diana-colored glasses on - DIANA GOGGLES! π₯½
- The explanation of the covenant sounds sketchy to Chris
- Chris has a lot of salient points, here! Then he goes ahead and moves back to his assholish comments.
- Was Chris suggesting that Matthew was stalking her for different reasons?
- We discuss spousal wisdom being ignored vs. the wisdom from a colleague.
- It’s time to flee the Bishop house….where will they go? Seville?
- Sarah….GO SARAH! π
- How does Peter get a say in his replacement?! He was kicked off!π‘
- The report on Diana, and Sarah’s brilliant answer…
- Peter would probably love new dark spells, that’s why he’s interested in Diana.
- An offer is made.
- Matthew is reluctant, but eventually he agrees to Chris’s terms.π€
- Chris lays out his requirements…and he’s got a message for Miriam
- We can’t wait for Miriam to hand Chris his ass…
- Don’t look back… πΆ

* Our episode titles are a loving tribute to the show "Friends" just 'cause we love Friends and - let's face it - it's easier! Here's how one of the show creators explains their reasoning:
Jeff Greenstein: "When Marta & David & Jeff & I did 'Dream On', we used to spend a lot of time thinking about titles, because they were on-screen at the top of each episode. On "Friends", we decided that was a waste of time. We figured, why not name each episode after the thing that people will ostensibly be talking about around the water-cooler the next day?"
